The scariest movies have sometimes been equally matched by the horror and terror that their posters have been able to show. A number of these films may or may not have been truly scary but having effective poster ideas and custom poster printing did a great job of scaring moviegoers simultaneously. Below are a number of most scary movie posters ever printed:
The Exorcist, 1973-This film has to be on the top half of the list of the scariest movie posters of all time. The haunting, black and white imagery, highly contrasted by the lone glow of the street lamp in front of the house of Linda Blair’s character, diabolically-possessed, Regan. The scene is further made ominous as the street lamp illuminates the solitary silhouette of Father Merlin, who plays the experienced but aged catholic exorcist.
Hostel-a film by Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino and released in 2005, the film tells the story of two American tourists backpacking through Europe. They listen to of an exotic hostel in Slovakia known for beautiful women who have a taste for American men. On arriving, what they find is their worst nightmare as the hostel turns out to be place where they torture and murder tourists. The poster features a low view of a man standing by a doorway holding the dismembered head of a woman. The woman’s face is disturbingly serene and the poster is rendered in a glowing, calm light.
The Blair Witch Project-A story is of thee young filmmakers who camp out in the woods, Maryland in order to film a documentary. The students disappear and two years later, their video footage was found. The film does not explain monsters, gore, or ghosts but the idea of a witch community combined with the solitary calm of the woods can be to drive the imagination. The film’s poster is in black and white and establishes the story immediately through its tagline. Chilling is the silhouette of the trees on the upper portion and the hopeless, abandoned look in the eyes of the only female student illuminated only by a flash of light.
